Jack Stuppin: Songs of the Earth

ACA Galleries is pleased to announce its first solo exhibition of paintings by Jack Stuppin. A color brochure with a statement by Dore Ashton is available.

The exhibition Songs of the Earth: Landscapes by Jack Stuppin was on view at the San Jose Museum of Art, CA in 2009.  A catalogue with a curatorial statement by Peter Selz and essays by Susan Landauer and Donald Kuspit is also available.

Jack Stuppin’s vibrant, undulating landscapes are emotional and subconscious reactions to nature as well as passionate appeals for environmental consciousness. Throughout the history of art many have found their subject in the landscape but Stuppin’s conception and execution are highly individual and inventive. Using thick impasto, energetic brush work and brilliant colors he has created his own particular style.

Born 1933 in Yonkers, New York, he attended Columbia College from 1951 to 1955 where he received art instruction from Peppino Mangravite. He studied painting at the San Francisco Art Institute from 1967 to 1971 under the tutelage of William Allan, Jay De Feo, Sam Tchakalian and Franklin Williams. He was for many years a member of The Sonoma Four, a group well-known for their en plein air landscape painting.
