We are deeply saddened by the passing of renowned sculptor Anita Huffington on March 15, 2025. A beloved member of the ACA family, Anita’s evocative stone, bronze, and wood figures captured the essence of the female form, drawing inspiration from Classical Greek statuary and the natural world.
Anita's artistic journey began in New York in the late 1950s when she studied dance with Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham. Immersed in the vibrant New York School, she engaged with artists like Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline, and Philip Guston. This experience ultimately led her to sculpture. Influenced by her background in dance and her life in the Ozark Mountains, Anita's work reflected the rhythms of movement, the textures of nature, and the depth of the human form.
Anita was a deeply cherished ACA Galleries artist, and we were honored to present her work in multiple exhibitions over the decades. Most notably, Color & Form in 2012 and Totems & Deities in 2014, a joint exhibition with Herb Alpert, celebrated her extraordinary vision. Her contributions to the art world were widely recognized, including the Jimmy Ernst Award in Art from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1997 and the Arkansas Governor's Individual Artist Award in 2005.
Her legacy lives on in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Crystal Bridges, and beyond.
Our hearts are with her family, friends, and all who were moved by her work.
