Tony Notarberardino

Tony Notarberardino, born Melbourne, Australia, is a photographer/filmmaker renowned for his striking imagery and portraiture. His early influences came from his immigrant Italian parents obsession with the neorealist cinema of Rossellini, DeSica, Pasolini, Fellini and Antonioni. He developed a cinematic style that captured the attention of Vogue editors, leading to his first editorial commission at the age of 26. 

 

Since then, his work has graced the pages of prestigious international publications such as, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Harpers Bazaar, Marie Claire, Elle and GQ. Highly sort after, Notarberardino has created iconic portraits of influential figures in the realms of film and entertainment, including Cate Blanchett, Grace Jones, Naomi Watts, Willem Defoe, Heath Ledger, Dee Dee Ramone, Debbie Harry, Rose Byrne, Russell Crowe and many others. 

 

Expanding his creative vision, he transitioned from photography to film making, producing music videos, documentaries and short movies. His film “The Erotic Dreams Of The Chelsea Hotel” directed, produced and shot by Notarberardino, received the Best short film award at the CineKink Film Festival in 2018.

 

In 1994, Notarberardino moved into the The Chelsea Hotel, where two years later, he commenced documenting the extraordinary cast of characters passing through its doors daily. On march 9th 2024, ACA galleries in New York City will host his first solo exhibition, “Chelsea Hotel Portraits.”

 

Currently residing in the historic Chelsea Hotel in New York City, Notarberardino continues to waive his visual narratives, leaving an indelible mark on the words of photography and filmmaking.
