March 4 through April 17, 2021
ACA Galleries is pleased to announce its forthcoming exhibition, P.H.A.S.E. 2, on view March 4 through April 17, 2021.
This exhibition honors the legendary P.H.A.S.E. 2 and his extraordinary contributions to hip-hop and urban culture. Credited as the most prolific, innovative and imitated street and subway style ‘writer’ of the 1970s, he later created inventive fliers for early hip hop shows and events.
He was the art director and collaborative editor of International Graffiti Times (IGT), the first publication dedicated to street and subway art. He formed one of the first break dance crews (New York City Breakers) and even released a record entitled “The Roxy” that features him as MC.
Throughout his life he continued to evolve and explore his craft through a multiplicity of forms from painting, assemblage, collage, sculpture, design, drawing, custom vinyl toys and beyond. This presentation pays homage to this seminal figure whose true impact has yet to be fully recognized.
